30 week picture

Ok, this is just about the worst picture of me in existence, so I'm not sure why I'm posting it to the internet, but I've been trying for about 3 weeks now to get another belly shot and just cannot remember to do it, so this is all you have.  This was my belly last week, at 30 weeks.

How old are you?

Ran to Kohl's yesterday with Lucy.  As we were checking out, Lucy was chatting up the cashier.

Lucy: I'm four.
Cashier: Ooh, four is a good age.  I'm nineteen.
Lucy: Mommy is...hmmm....mommy, how old are you anyway?
Me: That is information you do not need to know.

I guess I should be grateful they weren't discussing weight :D

Another funny: We've had a box of Lucky Charms around for breakfast lately and the best morning was the one when they were debating the existence of shooting stars.  Lucy was finding shooting stars, and Toby kept correcting her - "There's no such thing as shooting stars, they're meteorites!"

Giraffe Horse

A few weeks ago Toby went to Aullwood Farm with his class.  He came home and told me all the animals he saw, ending with the "giraffe horse". 

Me: "Do you mean draft horse?"

Toby "No, giraffe horse.  They're really tall!"

I should probably correct him, but frankly it's too hilarious to correct.  So for now, giraffe horse it is.

2 weeks to Pig!

We're in running mode here these days!  Curtis ran his last long run this morning (26 miles!) in prep for his marathon in 2 (yes 2!) weeks.  Toby and I will be doing the kids 1 mile marathon, and Lucy will bei n the piglet race...we are psyched and raring to go!

Except I'm raring to race...can't wait to get this baby out so I can start running again!  18 more weeks at most (12 more weeks max pregnant + 6 weeks recovery)...hopefully I can start in less than that!

Craftiness

Disclaimer: I am having the hardest time with blogger and my pictures getting rotated the wrong way...I will try to fix these but until then I will at least get them up!

First up, pic of the kids bathroom!  I love the yellow, it makes the room much more cheerful and fun.  We put in the shower curtain, took out the towel rod and unused toilet paper holder and hung hooks instead.  The kids love it!

I sewed a car seat canopy today - I had been studying several tutorials on the web over the last couple weeks, but knew I wanted the slit up the front and most don't have that - they're more like a blanket with straps for the handle.  I initially wanted to use an upside down zipper for the opening, but went to put my zipper in and it's broken!  It was old, so no returning to the store, and too cheap to buy a new one, I decided on velcro tabs instead.  Not as silent to open as the zipper, but easy to install! 

We have a larger carseat so I made my cover a little bigger than most tutorials I've seen.  The length and width are good, but if I made one again I would make my corners more rounded so they don't touch the floor.  But given the manner that I sewed this together it would be far too big a headache to undo and redo.

So I ended up measuring and cutting the front flaps first, then using a strip of the animal print, and the the green (my lining print).  I sewed the wider stripes together with piping in between (my first foray into piping and I'm in love!).  Then I took my front flaps and sewed just the seam of the slit, with the velcro inserted.  At this point I had my lined front flaps, and a top piece and lining piece.  I sewed the lining to the top, right sides together (cut a curve on the corners first), and sewed the lining to the front pieces, right sides together.  Now I was down to 3 pieces, the 2 front pieces, fully lined, and the back part, fully lined.  I didn't want raw edges to show on the inside, so I used a French Seam to join the two and the effect is fantastic, I love it!  For the straps I used 2 4x9 stripes of fabric, sewed one end and side, turned, tucked in the raw edges, topstitched, and sewed a buttonhole on one end.  I placed the cover on the carseat to get proper placement of the straps, pinned, and sewed in place.  The last step was sewing on buttons and the velcro tabs on the opposite side of the front flap.  Written out I think it sounds much more complicated than it really was!

Last week I did my rocking chair pads - pretty simply, just rectangles with batting inside and I tied the layers together in a few places.  There are ties on all the corners.

GO AWAY Germs!

So since Christmas we've had 3 cases of strep, several colds, 1 flu, and now Lucy's got something...woke up at 3 throwing up and has been doing it off and on since then, and she couldn't sleep thanks to a stuffy nose.  Poor girl, she really feels awful.  Poor mommy, I'm tired and on limited caffeine!

All I want is one healthy week here!  Is that too much to ask?

We had our 20 week anatomy scan yesterday and everything looks good!  Both kids enjoyed seeing the baby, and so far my visits have all been easy and brief - that's the way I like it!
